Description
Blade measures approx. 31-3/4″, 38-1/4″ overall, and approx. 13/16″ wide. Regulation U.S. Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officer’s sword with cast brass hilt featuring a ribbed grip, large elliptical guard, and rounded pommel. Blade shows patina and wear, with no visible maker marks on the ricasso. Guard bears stamped initials (possibly “J.P.” or “H.”) and the number “45”, which is repeated on the pommel, hand guard, and grip, indicating a matched assembly. Includes metal scabbard with brass throat. A classic U.S. martial pattern carried by NCOs throughout the Civil War and well into the late 19th century. TAGS: Civil War sword.
