Description
Circa 1750-1850. Iron ressei menpo (face mask with fierce expression) featuring sculpted contours, detachable nose section, and a mounted horsehair mustache. Interior finished in red lacquer. Retains its original three-lame tare (throat guard), lacquered in black and laced in orange and navy silk using the kebiki-odoshi method. While unsigned, the piece is consistent with quality kabuto and menpo pairings from the Edo period, ca. 1750-1850. A fine example of standalone samurai facial armor.(TAGS: Edo. Samurai. Armor. Menpo.
