Antique mid-Victorian snake necklace. Purity ~15k, with 329 turquoise cabochons, bezel and bead set along articulated body. Eyes are bezel-set ruby cabochons, and eyebrows are lined with 10 rose cut diamonds. Total weight 51.1 grams, length 16″. Pertinent literature: cf: Shirley Bury, Jewellery 1789-1910, The International Era, Vol. I, Woodbridge, 1991, page 137 for similar examples of serpent jewelry from the mid 19th century.
