Description
Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 Navy carbine, Serial #11053. Rimfire .52 caliber. Unique sliding breech system designed by Christian Sharps. Manufactured by Sharps & Hankins, Philadelphia. Round barrel measures 24″ and is covered in original leather sheath, 38-1/2″ overall. Left receiver stamped “SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADA”; right receiver marked “SHARPS PATENT 1859.” Distinctive brass buttplate and sling swivel mount. TAGS: Civil War carbine rifle, naval firearm, rimfire ammunition, early breechloader, military antique. This item can be shipped in-house. Condition
The leather is good, showing crazing to the surface and some minor rubs and flakes. Bore has some areas of slight oxidation, rifling is easily visible. Finish retains a spotted gray brown age patina with scattered surface pitting and finish loss heaver on the underside. No chips or cracks in the stock. Receiver tang screw is elevated. See images.
