Description
Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine, .52 caliber, single shot percussion breechloader. Serial C23501. 22″ round barrel, 39″ overall. Barrel marked “SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG CO. / HARTFORD, CONN” in front of the rear sight and stamped “NEW MODEL 1863” to the rear of the sight. Rear sight is marked marked R.S. LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB 15th 1859. The left side of the receiver is marked “C. SHARPS / SEPT. 12TH 1848”; the right side is marked “R.S. LAWRENCE’ PAT. / APRIL 12th 1859” above the hammer and “C. SHARPS’ PAT. / OCT. 5TH 1859” behind the hammer. TAGS: antique longarm, U.S. Cavalry, Civil War rifle, Union era relics, saddle mounted. This item can be shipped in-house. Condition
Finish retains a gray-brown age patina with scattered surface pitting and finish loss; wood shows handling marks, dents and edge wear. Front stock has cracks. Bore has visible rifling with scattered spots of oxidation. See images for details.
