Description
Savage Navy percussion cap-and-ball revolver manufactured by the Savage Repeating Fire Arms Co. of Middletown, Connecticut. Frame marked with 1859 and 1860 patent dates. Distinctive figure-8 trigger guard with secondary ring trigger used to index and cock the hammer. Six-shot cylinder, .36 caliber. Barrel measures 7-1/8″. Serial number 5224 stamped on underside of barrel, placing production ca. 1862. Approximately 20,000 of these were produced between 1861 and 1865, with documented issue to Union naval and army forces during the Civil War.
