Description
Colt 1851 Navy percussion revolver, .36 caliber, 7.5″ octagonal barrel. Serial number 56373, manufactured in 1856, with matching numbers on barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, and backstrap. Frame stamped Colts Patent with U.S. beneath. Brass trigger guard and backstrap consistent with U.S. Army contract purchases, distinguishing it from iron-mounted Navy models. Sub-inspection marks include L on trigger guard and H on backstrap behind hammer. Right grip retains a faint cartouche, likely from Ordnance inspector William A. Thornton.
