Americana Exceptional Auction
Lot 32:
Description
Early 20th century oil on board painting believed to be by Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958), measuring 13-5/8″ x 10-1/2″ in 17-3/8″ x 14-1/4″ frame. The backer board has a varnished 1914 magazine page partially glued onto it. This particular depiction and view is very like Lever’s similarly sized 1928 painting, “View of New York Harbor, from the Lackawanna Depot, New Jersey.” It appears to be unsigned, possibly cut down for this frame — edges are rough cut. It’s tempting to attribute it to Lever, given its remarkable similarity in style, skill, strokes and subject. This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.
