Description
Remington New Model Army percussion cap-and-ball revolver manufactured by E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, New York. Barrel marked three-line address that reads: “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL” . Chambered in .44 caliber with an 8″ octagonal barrel and six-shot cylinder. Serial number 100216. Left grip bears a crisp cartouche of Ordnance sub-inspector Orville W. Ainsworth (OWA), one of the most recognized inspectors of U.S. military arms in the 19th century. Additional sub-inspection letters (H, W, R, C, D, A) are stamped on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, and grips, confirming full U.S. government acceptance. Widely issued to Union troops under federal contract, this revolver carries direct Civil War military provenance with the added collector desirability of the OWA inspection mark.
