Engraved with a line from “Grass” by Carl Sandburg – “And pile them high at Ypres” and engraved “Ypres 1917”. Original WWI, no marks. Unusual piece of trench art commemorating the battles that resulted in extreme numbers of fatalities and the survival of the soldier who carried the lighter. Appears to be the original patina.
