Signed bronze bust by Jenelle Armstrong Byrd and Mark Austin Byrd, numbered 10/240, dated 2002. Bronze statue of Master Sergeant Raul Perez “Roy” Benavidez (August 5, 1935 – November 29, 1998), United States Army 5th Special Forces Group and SOG. Highly decorated for his bravery, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross, four Purple Hearts, and the Medal of Honor, he is recognized as an American hero for taking swift action to help a small outnumbered Special Forces Patrol escape a North Vietnamese battalion. Thought to be dead due to his extensive injuries from the battle he was being zipped into a body bag when he spat in the doctor’s face. Signed, numbered, and dated bronze commemorative sculpture with an engraved plaque bearing his name on the front, a second on the back describing his action on May 2, 1968, mounted on a wood block.
