Description
Likely retailed by Bent & Bush of Boston, Mass., a known outfitter of ceremonial swords in the late 19th century. Blade measures 29-7/8″, overall length 36-1/2″, with a blade width of approx. 9/16″ at the ricasso. Postwar ceremonial version of theU.S. Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword, carried by militia officers and Civil War veterans in the decades following the war. Blade is etched with patriotic American motifs including “U.S.”, eagle, shield, flags, and floral scrollwork. Features a brass guard with detailed relief and folding counterguard for wear, wire-wrapped grip, and ornate pommel. Iron scabbard with decorative drag and star-decorated throat fitting.
