14k gold Special Forces tie tack with diamond, from the personal collection of General William P. Yarborough. Yarborough (American, 1912-2005) is credited as being the father of the Green Berets. A WWII airborne commander and designer of the U.S. paratrooper’s badge, jump boots and the M42 paratrooper uniform, Yarborough helped define America’s special operations capabilities. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy appointed him personally to lead the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center, tasking him with expanding and institutionalizing the role of Special Forces in global Cold War strategy. Provenance: Consigned by a long-time personal friend of General Yarborough, one who delivered a eulogy at the general’s funeral.
