Description
Unmarked at ricasso, but etched with “3. Chev. Regt. Herz. Karl Theodor” on one side and the Bavarian motto “In Treue fest” (“Steadfast in loyalty”) on the other. Straight etched blade measures approx. 32″, overall 37-1/2″, with a blade widthout 3/4″. This example was intended for dress or commemorative use rather than mounted combat, consistent with Bavarian ceremonial swords of the Imperial period. Issued for the 3rd Chevaulegers Regiment, a light cavalry unit of the Royal Bavarian Army. Nickel-plated folding guard features the Bavarian lion holding a sword and shield.
