Description
Silver gelatin print taken from the now lost original negative. Copyright 1894 by Watson Porter, assumed to be published by Sprague & Hathaway Co. Photograph was taken from the original untouched Alexander Gardner “cracked-plate” portrait. This original version shows the hands of the President slightly blurred. Mat is printed “Abraham Lincoln, From the last original unretouched negative of the Martyred President, made by ALEXANDER GARDNER, Photographer to the Army of the Potomac, the Sunday before the Assassination, while he was sharpening a pencil for his son TAD.” The last line with the copyright information is partially cut. Laid on a printed mat, image is approx. 10-1/4″ x 13-1/2″, overall approx. 14-1/8″ x 17″. This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.
