Description
Pennsylvania proprietary land warrant on vellum, dated 1750, issued in the names of Thomas Penn and Richard Penn (the sons of William Penn) directing that a tract be surveyed. The text describes boundaries by neighboring owners, including Ann Cunningham, John and William Black, and Thomas and John White, and records distances in perches, the period surveying unit. Signed by James Hamilton as lieutenant governor, consistent with his first term in office, 1748-1754. An original first-stage instrument in the Penn family land process, preceding the survey return and patent. Measures 16-3/8″ x 33-1/2″ including frame.
