Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1861 rifle. The lock plate is clearly marked “1862” behind the hammer and “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with an eagle motif forward of the hammer. 58 caliber bore, designed for the Minie ball, and retains its original single-shot, muzzle-loading percussion system (no post-war trapdoor conversion). TAGS: percussion longarm, Union infantry weapon, rifled musket, Civil War ordnance, Springfield Armory production, black powder firearm. This item can be shipped in-house. Condition
Finish has a gray-brown patina. Stock has age appropriate wear, no cracks found. “JK” has been engraved into the stock. Bore rifling is visible with a few dark spots. See images.
