Lot 67:
Description
Original early American promissory note from the state of Connecticut, dated 1780. This note has been altered, with “him” struck out and replaced with “her”, regarding the pension of Sam Coy now being collected by Sarah Coy (either his wife or daughter). Samuel is presumed to be a Private of the Connecticut Line, 1st Brigade, Huntington’s Regiment, of the 5th Connecticut Company under Captain Abner Prior. He was considered a Patriot of the Revolutionary War, having died on April 6, 1778 at Valley Forge after the notoriously lethal winter. The back of the note has a list of interest payments ending in 1789, indicating that the new country was not able to pay the debt in the allotted time. Approx. 4-1/4″ x 8-1/4″. This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.
