Lot 48:
Description
Large chromolithograph advertising sign for Eduardo H. Gato’s Key West Havana Cigars, measuring 10-3/4″ x 15″. Embossed lettering in blue and silver frames a central medallion of “Bouquet de Eduardo H. Gato,” depicting a classical female figure with shield and anchor. Produced ca. 1890-1915 for store display. Gato, a Cuban-born industrialist, operated one of the largest factories in Key West, helping establish Florida as a center of the cigar trade. A striking survivor of the golden age of cigar advertising and an important, antique piece of Florida and tobacciana history. One of two Gato signs in today’s auction — each one has its own unique colors. This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.
