1948 Bowman #69 George Mikan rookie card, graded SGC 7.5 (NM+) with the early green and white label. Without a doubt, this card is universally recognized as one of the holy grails of the hobby, a cornerstone not just of basketball collecting but of sports cards in general. Mikan, the dominant force of the Minneapolis Lakers, transformed the game and laid the groundwork for the modern center. The 1948 Bowman release is the first mainstream basketball card set, and the Mikan rookie is far and away its most important card. As well, SGC is widely regarded as the premier grader of vintage cards, and very strict in its earlier years — this one was graded in April 2002. This high-grade example represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic issues in the history of the hobby.
