Hand-signed photographic print of then-Brigadier General William P. Yarborough speaking with JFK in 1961. Photo signed in the late 1990s. Print is affixed to foam core back and measures about 8″ x 10-1/2″. Yarborough (American, 1912-2005) is credited as being the father of the Green Berets. A WWII airborne commander and designer of the U.S. paratrooper’s badge, jump boots and the M42 paratrooper uniform, Yarborough helped define America’s special operations capabilities. In 1961, President Kennedy appointed him personally to lead the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center, tasking him with expanding and institutionalizing the role of Special Forces in global Cold War strategy. Provenance: Consigned by a long-time personal friend of GeneralYarborough, one who delivered a eulogy at the general’s funeral.
