Description

Substantial cast-iron piece measuring about 29″ from cascabel to muzzle with a bore of about 1-1/2″ and an approx. weight of 69 lbs. Exterior shows period-style mouldings at the muzzle, reinforce, and breech, plus a rounded cascabel button and theremnant of a single mounting lug-features associated with small swivel pieces used aboard European vessels and in shore batteries during the late 17th to early 19th centuries. A square-punched vent is present; the bore and exterior exhibit deep pitting and encrustation that suggest prolonged exposure in a wet or marine environment. No foundry marks are visible under the corrosion. TAGS: black powder ordnance, historic gunnery relic, seafaring armament, coastal fort defense, narrow caliber breechpiece, nautical deck weaponry, signal. Heavy oxidation and pitting consistent with long-term burial or submersion; stable as found.
