Description
Two rope stools or tables 111, designed by John Dickinson (American, 1920-1982). Painted plaster. Measure about 19″ high, 17-1/2″ diameter. Provenance: From the estate of Cary Jones, a personal friend of Dickinson’s in the 1970s. Jones was purported to have obtained several pieces from the designer. Consigned by Jones’ surviving partner. *Important Disclosure: A close associate of Dickinson’s — as well as the sole licensee for contemporary reproductions of Dickinson furniture — indicated to Blackwell that he believes that the pieces from Jones in today’s sale were part of a failed collaboration between Dickinson and three other partners, who were tasked with manufacturing his pieces for a window display at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. Both the tables and the molds were rejected by Dickinson as having unacceptable production quality. While the Dickinson pieces offered here should be considered, at best, seconds or rejects, they do represent — however obliquely — a part of Dickinson’s history. This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice. We maintain a list of reliable shippers, or you may choose your own.
