Heavy octagon barrel approx. 32″, 47″ overall, with an approx. .51 bore at the muzzle. Half stock with brass trigger guard and buttplate. Barrel marked E. Fay and lockplate marked JM Caswell. Both names are documented mid-19th century New England makers, with Elihu Fay, Albany NY known for heavy octagon barrel Kentucky Rifles and J. M. Caswell, Lansingburgh NY for percussion lockplates used by regional gunsmiths in the 1840s–1860s.
